Things to do this Summer in the Wausau Area!
Summer is finally here! In Central Wisconsin, we’re used to having winter until April / May, so by the time summer rolls around, we’re all ready. If you’re new to the area or simply want to get out and explore, we’ve put together a list of fun summer activities our team enjoys! Get to know our team and the area!
1. Rib Mountain hiking and walking trails.
Compared to other areas, Rib Mountain may not be the largest mountain, but it has a lot of beautiful trails and a well-known tower overlooking the entire area. Plus it’s just a few minutes from Rib Mountain Drive retail and restaurants. One of Allison’s favorites!
2. Leigh Yawkey Art Museum.
The Leigh Yawkey Art Museum has been nationally recognized multiple times and is free to the public to enjoy the indoor art exhibits, as well as the outdoor sculpture garden.
3. Monk Botanical Gardens.
Enjoy walking through beautiful gardens at the Monk Botanical Gardens. This activity is free to enjoy and fun to observe the beauty of nature on a summer’s day!
4. Blades and Boards.
Throw some axes with friends! Blades and Boards is newer to the Wausau area and features a fun, urban environment with food & drink selections and ax throwing… it’s not as easy as it looks! Austin has tried a few times… not as easy as it looks!
There are tons of kayaking hot spots in the area. There is a handicaped launch area near the RiverWalk in Downtown Wausau and other drop in areas include along the Eau Claire River in Weston and Memorial Park in Wausau, and there are many more!
6. Central Wisconsin Ski Show.
Enjoy a free ski show by the Central Wisconsin Water Ski Team! Every Tuesday at 6:30 pm on Lake Wausau and every Thursday at 6:30 on Lake Dubay in Mosinee. The organization aims at providing fun entertainment for area residents and promoting growth in the sport / trade. What a fun evening activity for anyone!
7. Local pools.
Check out one of the area pools, check them all out this summer… There are a few in the area - Rothschild Pool, Weston Pool, Memorial Pool and Kaiser Pool to name a few! Plus the Grand Lodge Waterpark in Kronenwetter!
8. Stoney Acres - Pizza on the farm.
This local farm sells wood fired pizza made with locally sourced ingredients with the laid-back ambiance of farm-livin’ with outdoor and indoor seating! Plus they offer craft beer and other drink selections. They’re open Fri and Sat from 4:00 - 8:30 pm. One of Holly’s favorites!
9. Concert on the Square.
Wausau’s Concerts on the 400-block are back Wednesday evenings during June, July and August. Enjoy a free concert on the 400-block. Grab your friends, some food / snacks, or hit up a local restaurant on your way. Musical genres may vary each week.
10. Woodchucks Games.
Take me out to the ball game, you don’t have to go far, we have a great facility here in Wausau. Watching a game of baseball and munching on a ball-park burger or hot dog is a blast! Tickets range from $10-$30, so it’s a pretty affordable fun night out!
